Graveyard D;

It was sunny, mid-day with a few clouds spread out across the blue sky.

Leaves were falling off the few trees placed in the graveyard and the spaces between tombstones were speckled with dying leaves. This place, as on would expect, was depressing. The grass itself was even dead!

One wouldn't have expected a young girl with blonde hair and violet eyes to be smiling, sitting cross-legged before a stone talking as if someone were listening to her.

Mira was that girl, pulling her Sun Key from inside her shirt and laughing. "Can you believe they named me the sun guardian?" She laughed, this was the fifth time she brought this up. "Sorry, I almost forgot! I was just so excited about telling you I almost forgot to mention I got a new job, and I've met tons of new people outside of the Da Luca family."

She shrugged, looking away as if ashamed. "They're mafia like me, yeah, but I'm sure you'd like them. They're nothing like dad . . ."

Aika walked over the graveyard slowly. She had just visited her grandparents grave as she did once in a while.
She turned her head to the left when she thought to see a familiar face.
"Mira?" She asked softly.

Mira turned around quickly, jumping to her feet but relaxed when she saw it was only Aika.

She smiled lopsidedly. "Hey," She said in a small voice.

Aika calmly walked to the other girl.
"It seems I am not the only one who talks about their life here." She said softly.

Mira looked down, rubbing her neck as a nervous laugh escaped her lips. "You heard that, eh?" She gestured to the tombstone that read 'Melodia Mirabal.' "That's my mother . . . or her grave marker." She said in a voice she tried to keep higher than a whisper.

"It's okay... I also take my time telling my grandparents about what happened in my life." Aika said while looking at two graves that were resting in the shade of an ancient cherry tree. "Knowing my grandfather he would've laughed when I explained him why I was chosen as the Cloud guardian."
When Mira gestured to the grave in front of her Aika's look softened.
"I'm sorry for your loss." Aika said softly. "Did she die a long time ago?"

"Yeah," Mira nodded somberly. "she only had enough time to name me before . . ." She took a deep breath turning to Aika on the exhale. "Before Alec D'Artigo had her killed."

Mira nodded, a look of shame distorting the dim light in her eyes. "Nothing more than genetics ties me to that man." She made clear.

"Punished?" Mira asked with a laughter that contained no humor. "My mother was the one being punished." She seethed. "You see, he's the head of an Italian mafia that's rarely heard of. Nonetheless they have their own twisted version of pride they maintain at the end of their guns."

Her eyes fell on the grave. "He had an affair with a woman--my mother--which resulted in me, an illegite child due to the fact he was married. She--what were the words the hitman used? Ah, yes, he said she 'dirtied the D'Artigo bloodline with that bastard child.'" She rested her hand on the grace stone with a frown.

Aika shook her head.
"It happens all too often... guys are the pigs yet the women get slaughtered." She mumbled.
It had been something her father had said quite frequently. The mafia boss he was the right hand man for had also been the kind of guy who preferred every other woman over his own wife (including Aika's mother... but she had declined him friendly) and more then once he had been forced to clean up the mess the Boss had made.

Mira looked down to the ground, holding back tears. "He tried to raise me for the first three years of my life but...he couldn't even look at me. So he sent me off to the Da Luca's like a I was some sort of cheap gift."

She tried to blinked back tears. "I can't complain, I grew up happy in the household. My childhood was barely effected by those three years. I was loved, I was taken care of, I was treated like I belonged."

A single tear fell. "My mother's midwife used to visit me often, she once told me something that I'd never forget...she said that my mother never once hated Alec...even dying she told me my mother dedicated her last words to him." Her lip quivered. "I can't understand why after what that bastard did."

"Because she loved him and... and this might sound completely unbelievable... maybe he loved her too? It wouldn't be the first time someone who's part of the mafia has to do something against their own wishes." Aika said calmly.

"She told me...my mother never wanted me to hate him...which is why I was given his last name but--" Tears fell down Mira's face. "He took my mother away from me and couldn't bother being a father!" She clenched her hands at her sides. "She didn't deserve to die...not because of me. She was a good person who did good things."

Aika shook her head as she knelt down next to Mira.
"Don't say that... don't ever blame yourself for something like this. In cases like this..."
Aika sighed softly as her eyes rested on the grave in front of her.
"Your mother did not die because she gave birth to you... she died because she had fallen in love with a married mafia boss whose reputation has to stay perfect. And I don't know your father... but I've seen similar happenings like yours before... ever thought that maybe he could not raise you as his daughter not because he didn't care but because he cared too much? That every time he looks at you he sees the woman he loved?"

((I don't know what you planned for family bonds and such so just let me know if Mira's dad really is just an asshole who doesn't give a shit... ))

Mira looked down on the ground, tears still falling. "I'm nothing like her....I'm so angry at him and I want to hate him so bad." She whispered.

At that moment Aika showed a side she rarely showed to others as she pulled Mira into a hug.
"It's okay, piccolo sole*." She whispered. "Don't cry."

Mira hated crying.

She hated how it felt. Her body out of control, her vision impaired, but mostly what she hated was feeling so sad and vulnerable.

She cried anyway. In a fellow Guardian she let 15 years of tears held back and down fall.

The name, though, 'Piccolo Sole' seemed to have unlocked a faint, vague memory so deep inside of her she didn't realize it.

A kiss on the forehead, a hug warmer than expected, a nickname in a man's voice that was usually stoic, and a good-bye being said harder than it looked.

When Aika noticed Mira's crying became somewhat calmer she pressed a kiss on the other girl's forehead (actually surprising herself by doing that), slightly pushing her away so she could look at her and wipe her tears away.
"You want to get something to drink?" She asked, hoping it would give a bit of distraction.

Mira's mind hurt--as if it a visitor were knocking on the walls of her mind, begging to be recognized-- and nodded.

"Y-yeah." She whispered, closing her mind to collect herself. "I could use the distraction." She muttered, turning to the headstone with a nod, not willing to say good-bye.

She never said good-bye.

As the two of them were walking through town Aika looked at Mira for a moment, a worried frown on her face.
"Mira, are you alright?" You look very pale."

Mira smiled half-heartedly. "Yeah, I'm just trying to think straight." She said while shaking her head.

"You sure, it seems to me that you're just trying to suppress something." Aika said dryly.
She walked into a small coffee shop and sat down at one of the tables near the window.
"That's not going to work, you know." She said looking at Mira. "Trust me, I know from experience."
She left out the information that there actually had been one way to stop memories from arising... a way that almost killed her.

Mira gave a weak smile and a shrug. "Supressing something involves less confrontation than facing it." She said while taking a seat. "Sometimes its easier to numb oneself and prolong pain."
